A PRACTICAL CHECKLIST FOR BUYERS
How to Check a Surat Textile Agent Before You Trade
Before trading through a Surat textile commission agent, check the firm’s identity, GST details where applicable, office and references. Establish who supplies the goods, invoices and receives payment, then record the commercial terms. These checks help you assess a proposed transaction; they do not guarantee performance or payment.
Start with identities and responsibilities
A textile commission agent, or adhat agency, helps bring buyers and suppliers together. Before a first purchase, establish which firm you are dealing with and what role it will play. An agent, a manufacturer and a seller may have different responsibilities in the same transaction.
A conversation is easier to assess when the people, business details and proposed terms can be checked. Use this checklist to organise that discussion. An online listing, a registration or a recommendation is one piece of evidence; consider them together.
Ten checks before you trade
Keep a record of the answers alongside the proposed order. If something remains unclear, ask for an explanation before committing. You can print this page as a discussion checklist.
- Establish the firm name and GST details. Ask for the legal name, trading name and GSTIN where applicable. Use the government GST portal's Search Taxpayer service to check registration status, the registered business details and available filing information. Ask about differences between the legal name, trading name and office address; do not assume every difference indicates a problem.
- Locate the office. Obtain the complete address, including the building and unit number. Check the location and contact the office before visiting. If you travel to Surat, meeting at the stated premises can help establish who you are dealing with.
- Know the people responsible. Ask who owns or runs the agency and who will handle your purchase. Keep the named contact and an established phone number with the order details. Clarify who can agree changes to the transaction.
- Compare the public business details. Look for consistency across the firm's website and business listings. Ask about unexplained discrepancies. An established agency may have a limited online presence; a polished website or LinkedIn profile is not proof of reliability.
- Define the agency's role. Confirm who sells the goods, who issues the invoice, who receives payment and who coordinates dispatch or product concerns. Record the responsibilities of the buyer, supplier and agent rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
- Clarify commission and other costs. Ask whether an agency fee applies, who pays it, when it is due and what it covers. Keep this separate from the goods price, packing, transport and other agreed purchase charges. Confirm the arrangement in writing.
- Verify the payment recipient. Check the recipient's identity and authority under the documented transaction. Confirm bank instructions through an established contact, particularly after any change. A message from an unfamiliar number should not be the sole basis for changing where you pay.
- Record credit and advance terms. Agree the amount, due date, what starts the payment period, any charges and any advance requirement. Do not rely on a credit promise until eligibility and terms are confirmed. Read the questions to settle before agreeing terms.
- Speak to references. Ask whether existing buyers or suppliers are willing to discuss their experience. Where possible, corroborate information independently. Consider what the reference actually knows about the agency and the type of trade you are planning.
- Ask about market standing. Talk to established contacts about the firm's trading history, communication and handling of commercial commitments. Treat individual opinions as part of the assessment, then compare them with the information and terms you have obtained directly.
The GST portal's own guidance explains which registration and filing details are available. Those records help identify a business; they do not certify the outcome of a purchase.
When to pause and clarify
Pause if you are being asked to make a commitment before basic questions are answered. Seek a clear explanation and independent confirmation where needed.
- Pressure to transfer money before the recipient or purpose is clear.
- Unexplained differences in firm names, addresses, invoices or payment details.
- A last-minute bank-account change confirmed only by a message.
- Promises of automatic credit without a discussion of eligibility and terms.
- Reluctance to identify the people responsible or record commercial terms.
An individual account name alone does not establish fraud. The relevant question is whether the account holder and authority to receive payment match the agreed, documented arrangement.
What to share at the start
Your firm name, city, product category, price segment, approximate quantity and buying timeline are useful for an initial conversation. Prepare your buying brief before discussing suppliers.
Share business documents only when their purpose is clear, through an agreed channel with an identified recipient. Do not send bank passwords, card details, OTPs or ID documents through the website enquiry form. A request for sourcing information should not require your banking login credentials.

How we consider a new relationship
We do not use a formal document checklist. For a new customer, we take references from our existing customers and consider GST filing and compliance history as one input into our assessment. This is not a formal credit rating or a guarantee of payment. New retail customers pay an advance, and their purchases are capped at that amount.
Suppliers check our standing through market references from the people we already work with. Most of our buyers have worked with us for years, some for decades. Ask us about our firm and role before deciding to proceed.

Frequently asked questions
Does an active GST registration prove an agent is reliable?
No. It helps establish the identity and registration status of a business. Review references, responsibilities and the proposed transaction as well. Registration or filing history alone does not prove creditworthiness or guarantee performance.
What if the legal name differs from the trading name?
Ask the firm to explain the relationship between the names and check it against the registration and transaction documents. A legal name and a trading name can differ. Resolve unexplained discrepancies before proceeding.
Should I pay an advance?
An advance should follow the agreed transaction terms. Confirm the recipient's identity and authority, the purpose of the payment, the purchase limit and how the advance will be accounted for. Verify payment instructions through an established contact before transferring money.
Who pays a textile agent's commission?
Ask each agent who pays, when payment is due and what the service covers. At BK Enterprise, suppliers pay our commission once the customer's payment has cleared. Buyers pay no agency fee to BK Enterprise. Goods and other agreed purchase costs remain separate.
Does an introduction mean credit is approved?
No. An introduction or enquiry does not establish a credit facility. Credit facilities and terms vary based on the buyer, supplier, relationship and transaction. Arrangements are subject to agreed commercial terms. Confirm eligibility and the agreed payment terms before treating credit as available.
Can I visit BK Enterprise before placing an order?
