TWO ROUTES INTO SURAT'S SAREE TRADE
Buying Sarees in Surat: Directly or Through a Commission Agent?
Both routes can work. When you buy directly, you handle supplier discovery, comparison, coordination and follow-up yourself. A commission agent supports that work with you. At BK Enterprise, suppliers pay our commission and buyers pay no agency fee. The goods and other agreed purchase costs remain separate.
What is an adhat?
An adhat is a commission agent in the textile trade: an intermediary connecting buyers and suppliers and helping coordinate the purchase. BK Enterprise is a textile commission agency in Surat. We do not manufacture sarees.
The comparison below describes direct purchasing and our agency model. Other agents may have different responsibilities or fee arrangements, so ask what is included before you proceed.
The differences at a glance
Compare the two routes below. On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read both columns.
| What to consider | Buying directly | Through BK Enterprise |
|---|---|---|
| Finding suppliers | You find suppliers and compare their ranges yourself. | We help with supplier discovery and market intelligence. |
| Coordination | You handle purchasing discussions and follow-up with each supplier. | We support purchase coordination and commercial follow-up with you. |
| Price | The offer depends on the supplier, product, quantity and your market knowledge. | In our experience, an experienced agent usually helps buyers get better deals. Compare the full offer; a lower price is not guaranteed. |
| Agency fee | No intermediary agency fee when you buy directly from the supplier. | Suppliers pay our commission once the customer's payment has cleared. Buyers pay no agency fee to BK Enterprise. |
| Credit | In our experience, new direct buyers usually are not offered credit. Confirm the supplier's terms. | Eligible credit facilitation; terms depend on the buyer, supplier, relationship and transaction. New retail customers pay an advance, with purchases capped at that amount. |
| Visiting Surat | Discuss whether a visit is needed and make your own arrangements. | You can start remotely. Customers visiting from outside Surat receive free lodging and meals while sourcing with us; contact us before travelling. |
Buying directly from Surat suppliers
Buying directly means managing the supplier relationship yourself. You find potential suppliers, compare ranges and full offers, establish identities and payment instructions, and coordinate orders and follow-up.
Compare the same specification and quantity, rather than the quoted price alone. Clarify what the offer includes, who invoices and receives payment, the dispatch expectations, and how a shortage or product concern should be reported. Keep the agreed details in writing.
In our experience of Surat's saree trade, suppliers usually do not offer credit to new buyers purchasing directly. Each supplier sets its own terms, so confirm the arrangement before ordering.
Our Surat saree sourcing guide helps you prepare a buying brief and the questions to discuss with a supplier.
Buying through a commission agent
Through BK Enterprise, you have support with supplier discovery, market intelligence, purchase coordination, commercial follow-up, risk awareness, long-term supplier relationships and eligible credit facilitation. Read our saree sourcing service for the process and scope.
The buyer, supplier and agent still need to agree their roles. Agency support does not replace confirmation of the goods, price, payment recipient or commercial terms for each purchase.
Costs: who pays what?
Suppliers pay our commission once the customer's payment has cleared. Buyers pay no agency fee to BK Enterprise.
This is the agency fee only. Goods, packing, transport and other agreed purchase costs remain separate. Discuss the full offer before committing, including what is included in the quotation and what is charged separately.
In our experience, buyers working with an experienced agent usually get better deals than they would find on their own, because the agent knows the market and supplier relationships.
This does not mean every purchase through an agent will be cheaper. Prices depend on the product, supplier, quantity and commercial terms. Compare like-for-like specifications and the full purchase cost, not only the headline price.
Credit depends on the relationship and transaction
Credit facilities and terms vary based on the buyer, supplier, relationship and transaction. Arrangements are subject to agreed commercial terms.
BK can help facilitate eligible credit-based transactions. Working through an agent does not automatically create a credit facility, and a previous order does not settle the terms of the next one.
For a new customer, we take references from our existing customers and consider GST filing and compliance history as one input into our assessment. We do not use a formal document checklist. GST history is not a credit rating or a guarantee of repayment.
New retail customers pay an advance, and their purchases are capped at that amount. Confirm the recipient, purpose and written terms of any advance before paying.
Use the trade and credit guide to clarify the amount, due date, any charges and each party's responsibilities.
Do you need to visit Surat?
A visit is not always necessary. You can begin by phone or WhatsApp. Whether the purchase can proceed remotely depends on the product, supplier and arrangements discussed. Explain your requirement and any need to inspect or compare the goods before deciding whether to travel.
Customers visiting from outside Surat receive free lodging and meals while sourcing with us. Contact us before travelling to discuss your visit and arrangements.
Our office is at A-121, Gajjar Chambers, Falsawadi, Ring Road, Surat 395002. Monday–Saturday, 9 AM–9 PM IST. Closed Sunday.
Check whoever you deal with
Whichever route you choose, establish the firm's identity, office and named contacts. Clarify roles, charges and the payment recipient's authority under the documented arrangement. Verify changed payment instructions through an established contact.
These checks help reduce uncertainty; they do not certify legitimacy or guarantee the outcome. Our textile-agent checklist explains the checks and how BK answers them.
A Surat agency since 1992
Brothers Ashok Agrawal and Vinod Agrawal founded BK Enterprise in 1992. Their sons, Aakash and Vikas, carry the business forward. Most of our buyers have worked with us for years, some for decades.
Sarees are our main focus. We also support dresses, dress materials, kurtis, lehengas, ethnic wear and western wear. Read about BK Enterprise.
Questions before you choose a route
Do I pay BK Enterprise to buy through you?
Suppliers pay our commission once the customer's payment has cleared. Buyers pay no agency fee to BK Enterprise. This is the agency fee only. Goods, packing, transport and other agreed purchase costs remain separate.
Will I get a better price through an agent?
In our experience, buyers working with an experienced agent usually get better deals than they would find on their own, because the agent knows the market and supplier relationships. That is a market observation, not a promise for every order. Prices depend on the product, supplier, quantity and agreed terms; compare the full purchase cost.
Will a supplier give me credit if I buy directly?
In our experience of Surat's saree trade, suppliers usually do not offer credit to new buyers purchasing directly. Each supplier sets its own terms, so confirm the arrangement before ordering.
Can I get credit through BK Enterprise?
Credit facilities and terms vary based on the buyer, supplier, relationship and transaction. Arrangements are subject to agreed commercial terms. For a new customer, we take references from our existing customers and consider GST filing and compliance history as one input into our assessment. An enquiry or introduction does not establish a credit facility.
I'm a new retailer. Can I still work with you?
Yes. New retailers are welcome to contact us with their business details and sourcing requirements. New retail customers pay an advance, and their purchases are capped at that amount.
Do I need to come to Surat?
A visit is not always necessary. You can begin by phone or WhatsApp. Whether the purchase can proceed remotely depends on the product, supplier and arrangements discussed. Customers visiting from outside Surat receive free lodging and meals while sourcing with us. Contact us before travelling to discuss your visit and arrangements.
